Hon. Dcn Chike Okafor in Geneva, Switzerland to brief the Assembly on the efforts/role of the Nigerian parliament in increasing funding/budgetary allocation to the health sector towards achieving universal health coverage & health security
Hon. Dcn Chike Okafor is at the moment attending the 71st World Health organisation Assembly in Geneva,Switzerland as part of Nigeria\’s delegation.
The Hon. Minister of State for Health, Dr Ehanire led the Nigerian delegation. Also in attendance are ,ES/CEO NHIS -Prof Yusuf Usman, DG NAFDAC-Prof Mrs Adeyeye,among others.
The erudite ES/CEO of NHIS Prof Usman Yusuf would be leading the Universal Health Coverage discussions.
Hon. Deacon Chike Okafor is the member representing Ehime-Mbano, Ihitte-Uboma and Obowo Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Chairman House committee on Health Care Services,
Hon. Okafor addressed the Assembly on the efforts and role Nigerian Parliament played in increasing the budgetary allocation of the health sector which is the 1% of the nation consolidated revenue fund in this year\’s budget.
He stressed that the world cannot address the issue of Universal Health Coverage, Non-communicable disease, Communicable disease and other health issues this Assembly plans to address without a workable, well equipped and functional Primary Healthcare Centres.
This has explained his interest and action that led to the revitalization of over 60 Primary Healthcare Centres and the construction of some cottage hospitals in Imo State, Nigeria.
